Day 16, Sunday, May 27th: The Longest Sunday
Awake to a very sunny day! Our last wake up in Tokyo. While Lana is editing the blog, I am doing my suitcase packing. We finish our blog for yesterday and publish. It is going to be an incredibly long Sunday. Given we are 16 hours ahead of Vancouver time this means Sunday will be 40 hours long for us. We leave Tokyo around 17:00 on our direct flight and arrive at Vancouver YVR about 10:00 the same day. So we will have to deal with a good part of Sunday in Vancouver.
Down to the breakfast buffet and there is a long line before 09:35 waiting to be seated. Another delicious breakfast and I take some salmon and two pieces of bread for the plane. We are back in our room by 10:30. We have organized an airport shuttle to Narita International Airport for 11:55 am departure. We check out and then provide our luggage to the bell hop. We decide to wait outside in the warm sun. Many dogs and dog owners outside with one owner pushing a dog stroller/buggy. We will be dropped off at South Terminal One.
After we leave our hotel we stop at the Prince Hotel complex four times and then we are off to the airport. My usual 'seat karma' occurs within minutes of pickup at Prince Hotel the lady behind believes it is necessary to constantly pull on the back of my seat. I turn around to ask her to stop pulling and she is very apologetic. The shuttle bus announcements are in Japanese, English and Mandarin. Yes, there are many mainland Chinese tourists in Tokyo.
Mostly expressway driving to Narita as it is very remote from Tokyo. Lana is very excited as she has confirmed Business Class upgrade for our long flight to Vancouver. We pass by many rice fields and I regret never getting a chance to take a photo. We arrive at our terminal within 85 minutes of departure. With Lana's Super Elite Air Canada status we have priority check-in and then at security. Customs is very slow so we have a quick and uneventful check in. We stop at a Duty Free store to purchase a nice bottle of Plum Wine for a friend and then finally a bottle of sake for our wine collection. By 14:00 we are in the United First Class lounge.
Our flight left Narita airport on time and we arrived in Vancouver around 09:35 the exact same day being Sunday. That is always very weird. We are safely at home and enjoying the beautiful day in Vancouver.
We had a fantastic trip to Japan and really enjoyed the culture and people. We will be back!
